Gov. Wes Moore signed into Maryland state law a voter-approved referendum legalizing the production, sale, and use of cannabis on May 3. Equity features are built into the new law allowing recreational marijuana for adults 21 and over starting July 1.
“The criminalization of marijuana harmed low-income communities and communities of color in a profound way,” Moore said. “We want to make sure that the legalization of marijuana lifts those communities now in a profound way.”
